Limestone Posts Mark Santa Fe and Oregon-California Trails
Holmes Road, Oak Street, Pennsylvania Avenue, State Line Avenue
Four limestone posts have been funded and installed on the Old Santa Fe Trail by the Historical Society of New Santa Fe as part of a trail marking project by the Missouri River Outfitters Chapter of the Santa Fe Trail Association. The purpose of the trail marking project is to preserve, promote, and protect the National Historic Trails through Missouri and eastern Kansas.
The locations of these four posts are on the Old Santa Fe Trail, in southwest Kansas City, at Holmes Road, at Oak Street, at Pennsylvania Street and at State Line Road.
The design is a 5 1/2 to 6-foot tall slender stone post of Kansas postrock for durability and attractiveness. Each post is placed in concrete with about four feet extending above the ground.
All posts display the National Park Service Logos for the Santa Fe Trail as well as the Oregon-California Trails, and the Missouri River Outfitters identification. The Three Trails run concurrently from Independence, Missouri to Gardner, Kansas, and followed the same routes through the KC metropolitan locale.
