Indian Creek Trail Greenway
The Indian Creek Trail Greenway is part of MetroGreen®, a proposed 1,144-mile interconnected system of public and private open spaces, greenways and trails designed to link seven counties in the Kansas City metropolitan area.
This trail is unique because it was the first MetroGreen® trail system connecting Kansas and Missouri communities, and it is currently our region’s longest trail system. It is a strong example of the coordinated planning efforts of several area municipalities. The trail is a part of the Kansas City, Mo., Parks & Recreation system and was recently added to the KCMO City-Wide Master Plan. Eventually, planners want to connect the Indian Creek Trail to the planned Blue River Trail and the existing Trolley Track Trail.
The Indian Creek Trail Greenway passes through four metro cities: Leawood, Overland Park, Olathe, and Kansas City, Mo. It connects with Tomahawk Creek Trail, Pinehurst Park, Foxhill South Park, the Corporate Woods Business Park, Stoll Park, the Overland Park Golf Course and Water Works Park in Olathe.
It includes several amenities such as ball fields, shelters, playgrounds and tennis courts. It is close to several retail and commercial centers.
The Kansas City, Mo., Parks & Recreation Trailshead by the Trailside Center is a starting point and continues west 24 miles to Olathe, Kan. There is parking at the Trailside Center and tourism pamphlets including bike brochures at the site.
